Artist Statement Telling stories has always been significant to my practice. Sometimes inspired by real events or settings, I intuitively develop narratives into a mix of subdued yet fantastical scenes in which the everyday is somehow disrupted. My imagery often depicts discordant relationships between individuals or groups and their environments, be it the physical space around them or their own personal psychological landscapes. Rather than clear-cut narrative events, my imagery offers descriptive detail into ambiguous tableaux. The viewer becomes a type of voyeur to the snapshot instant of the odd yet unspectacular; and must try to decipher what exactly is going on in them. Within these images, I aim to create a type of tension through the portrayal of alienation, physical or emotional inconvenience and dissatisfaction, and eventually reach the point where this tension can only erupt into absurd humour.
